  1. Does summer make it easier to have a few generations living in one home? Is there more "breathing space," so to speak, b/c people get out more? Or does it just bring more "issues" - you know, over whether or not to turn on the ac (air conditioning) or whether or not someone tracked sand into the house after a trip to the beach? Is it different in any way or more or less the same?
  2. About August Babies!

Is your new child/GC/ or will your new child/GC be an August baby? If so,  please let us know (no specific birth dates, however - too identifying!) And please feel free to tell us all about them! (Please do not give us more than the first name, though - again, too identifying! And If you'd like to post pics,  please make sure you have the parents' permission, unless you have custody.)
  3. If you're on low contact w/ your adult DS (dear son) or DD (dear daughter) and family, due to conflict or whatever, is any of that contact likely to occur this coming summer? And will it most probably be in the form of letters, postcards, or emails, etc? Or is it possible that you will see them, at some point, at this/that event or whatever?   Same questions if you're on LC w/ your parents or PILs, or, for that matter, any family member/IL.
  4. Have you ever simply spent vacation time at home - whether an extended weekend or a week, etc - just enjoying your surroundings or visiting local attractions? IOWs, have you ever taken a "staycation?" And what do you think about them?
  5. Well, it's summer and many people seem to take vacations/trips during this season. What's your dream vacation (for the summer or otherwise)?
  6. Where do you prefer to go on a sunny summer day? Beach or pool? And do your family members/ILs agree?
  7. What will you miss most about (this) summer, as it draws to a close?
  8. Is there any summer activity you haven't had a chance to do this year but would like/plan to before summer ends? Or any such activity that you would like/plan to do, one more time, before fall arrives? Boating? Water-skiing? Relaxing on the beach? Or ??
  9. Game: Two Words - Summer Fun!

Haven't had a new two-word game up here in a while. And it's not too late, I don't think, to do one centered around summer. As always, I'll start w/ a two-word expression, then you take one of the words and post another expression, and the next player uses one of your words to create another expression, etc. Great if the phrases are about summer but they don't have to be. Also, to make it a little easier, let's agree that the posts can be anywhere from 1-3 words.   Example: If I say "swimming pool," then you might say, "pool club," the next player might say "social club" and so on.   I'll start below...   To make it a little easier
  10. Is it easier in the summer?

Does summer make it easier to have a few generations living in one home? Is there more "breathing space," so to speak, b/c people get out more? Or does it just bring more "issues" - you know, over whether or not to turn on the ac (air conditioning) or whether or not someone tracked sand into the house after a trip to the beach?
  11. What kind of summer vacation do you enjoy most? Travel to other countries? Spending days on the beach? A beautiful hotel/resort, complete w/ 3 meals a day and both indoor and outdoor pools? Camping? Just relaxing at home? Or ??   Also, if you will, do you prefer vacationing w/ extended family? A few good friends? Just you and your spouse/SO? Just you and your spouse and kids, if any? Or??
  12. If you're raising your GC/other relative kids, is summer vacation more challenging for you than other times of the year? Do you find yourself spending endless hours trying to occupy/entertain the children? Or do you opt for the solutions parents usually opt for, such as day or sleepaway camp or extracurricular activities? Is there another relative to whom you can turn to help out? Or ??
  13. Summer Viruses, Etc.

Are there any viruses, etc. or injuries you worry about more in the summer months than at other times of the year? And what do you do, if anything, to treat/prevent them?
  14. About July Babies!

Is your new child/GC or will your new child/GC be a July baby? If so,  please let us know (no specific birth dates, however - too identifying!) And please feel free to tell us all about them! (Please do not give us more than the first name, though - again, too identifying! And If you're the child's GP/relative and would like to post pics, please make sure you have the parents' permission, unless you have custody.)
  15. Technically, it's still spring, but where I live it already feels like summer, the last few days - hot! hot! hot!   How's the weather in your neck of the woods?
  16. Game: More Two-Word Fun!

This game was originally entitled, "Summer Fun" and centered around  centered around summer and its various holidays, activities, etc.  But it has continued, off and on, for a year and is now, once again, going into fall. So I''ve decided to change the title and present it as a more general game.   If you've played our other two word game, then you know how it works. If not, no worries, it's simple! The first player posts a 2-word expression that they associate with summer or one of its holidays, etc. . Then the 2nd player takes either  of the 2 words and uses it to form a new 2-word expression. And then the next player takes either of those  2 words to form still another  2-word expression. Example:  I post "beach towel." Then you post "beach party." And the next player posts "birthday party," etc.   As you can see, I started it off, below, but there have been many posts since then.   ETA: To make it a little easier, let's say the expressions can be anywhere between 1 and 3 words.   Enjoy!
  17. Summertime Health Routines

Do you vary your health routines, if any, at all, in the summer? Do you, for example, jog more often b/c it's better weather or less often b/c it gets "too hot?" Get more exercise b/c you're more likely to go swimming or less b/c you tend to "laze around" poolside or on the beach? Or perhaps summer weather encourages you to eat healthier b/c you find salads refreshing and drink more water? Or, to the contrary, finds you giving into cravings for ice cream, etc? Or ??
  18. Game: The Poster After Me

Here's another fairly simple-but-fun game: "The Poster After Me." This time, I'll start by making a statement that may or may not be true about "the poster after me" - in other words, the poster who comments after I do. Then the next poster says whether it's True or False about them and maybe adds a sentence or two, explaining. Then they go on to make another possible statement about the next poster. And that poster says if it's True or False about them, etc.  Also, instead of saying "The poster after me," every time, you can use the acronym, TPAM.   For example, I might say, "The poster after me goes swimming every day." And then you might say, "False. But I go as often as possible." Then you may go on to say, "TPAM loves to shop." And the next poster may reply, "True" and then make a possible statement about the following poster, etc. I'll begin below...   ETA:  This thread started out as a "summer game." But it certainly doesn't have to be. And since posters are still playing, I've taken out all references to summer, in the title and here in this opening post. Enjoy!

  23. Do your kids - or the GC/relative kids you take care of - go to day camp in the summer? Or have/will they ever? If so, how does/did/will that affect your schedule? And do you think it is/was/will be worth it?
