PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

One of the best ways, IMO, to interact with others on this site is through the various groups in this Community Section. Here, I'm giving you a general overview of these forums and what they have to offer. A link to each group is provided, as well.

Some of the forums have Lead Moderators; others are overseen by the administration; and still other groups are led by all the mods and an administrator together.  Wherever a group listed below has a Lead Mod, it's indicated, after the title. Same if the administration ("Admin") is leading the forum, etc. A new group will be temporarily posted in red. A new Lead Mod's name will be bolded.

Ok, here goes...

I'm the Lead Mod of this group, of course, where we welcome newcomers, help them find appropriate forums and become acclimated to the site, discuss some general questions and play some fun (I hope) games. Though it's called "Club Newcomer," the group enjoys the participation of "oldcomers," as well, as you may already have noticed. :)

I'm also the LM of Grandparents Caring for Grandkids. In that group we explore the various issues surrounding the grandparent (or other relative) caregiving experience, as well as more general topics regarding childcare and childrearing. Whether you're raising your GC (or other relative kids), helping to raise them or watching them while the parents go to work, etc - or a parent dealing with any of these scenarios, I'd love to have you come over and talk with us. Anyone who has been in one or more of these situations or will be soon - or who is just generally interested in these issues - is welcome, also. http://community.grandparents.com/index.php/forum/15-grandparents-caring-for-grandkids/

And I'm a co-LM of Mothers-in-Law Anonymous, along with SueSTx, and lilypond. But I've probably talked enough and should leave that to one or more of my co-mods, there, to describe. I now turn this thread over to them, as well as the LMs of other forums...

Hi, I'm The moderator for Grandma's Pantry and General Gabbery. We love to share recipes and stories about one of my favorite things...food. http://community.grandparents.com/index.php/forum/11-grandmas-pantry/ Of course my favorite things are my two Granddaughters and their parents. We discuss those fun areas of our lives over in General Gabbery. We share funny stories the little ones tell, our thoughts on current events and even craft ideas. Drop in and share a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze with us. http://community.grandparents.com/index.php/forum/20-general-gabbery/

My name is Lilypond, and I have the great privilege of moderating "Mothers-in-Law Anonymous" with Rosered, SueSTX and PhalenMum.   We're a fast-paced board (we have over 5000 topics and almost 150,000 replies) and, with the hot-button issues discussed, we can even get furious.  I ultimately see the board as a crucible.  Topics arise from posters at all points in life and from all places in life.  Posters provide their perspective on the topic, often chewing over points and testing ideas until, eventually, each person finds some truth they can take away.  And it is likely not the same truth for each person, but we all walk away having thought of something a little different or more solidified in our original belief.  Come read a while and see if this is the place for you. http://community.grandparents.com/index.php/forum/9-mothers-in-law-anonymous/

I also join with the other mods in moderating "The Great Debate".  The title pretty much says it all....this is a place for debate.  If you want everyone to agree, don't go to this board.  But if you want to match wits with other posters while you analyze issues and critique the opposing side's logic, then this is the board for you. http://community.grandparents.com/index.php/forum/36-the-great-debate/

I'm Sue, and I also help with MILA and the debate forum.

I have learned many useful things on these boards. I have even changed my opinion on some issues and have had my thoughts reinforced on others. Come in and see if we have something to offer you, or maybe you have plenty to offer us.

I was never much of a debater, but I enjoy reading others ideas. Give "The Great Debate" a chance to change your views.

I am homeygfunk and I am moderator for the group All Single Golden girls and guys wanted. Sometimes we find ourselves single at the time in our life when we thought we would not be due to losing a partner or from being single anyway or any number of other reasons why we would be single late in life. This is a place to come to make friends and talk about it all. Come on in and tell us how things are for you or stop in and help out others who are here to ask questions or whatever else may be on your mind. Or just to make friends. See you there. http://community.grandparents.com/index.php/forum/25-all-single-golden-girls-guys-wanted/

I'm critter21 and the moderator for "Grandparenting From Afar".

I am also a grandparent from afar.

Our group is mainly made up of grandparents who live far away from their grandchildren, we give each other advice on how to stay in touch with the Grandkids and their Parents.

We welcome anyone who has ideas or advice for staying in touch with our Grands from afar.  So if you have grandchildren or not who live afar come over and join us. http://community.grandparents.com/index.php/forum/14-grandparenting-from-afar/

Note from RoseRed: Since writing the above, Critter has stepped down as a mod for personal reasons, But her description of GFA still fits.
