PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

I picked up a novel at the library this week written by Meg Mitchell Moore...The Arrivals.  What happens when an empty nest fills up again?  A captivating, heartwarming debut about growing up and coming home.

I'm only about halfway through, but it is spot on so far from the older generations side.  Also, the Mom/MIL is a bit of a grouch.

If my kids descended on me with their kids, I'd be a bit of a grouch too.....

I recently was introduced to a beautifully inspirational book “The Legacy Letters” by Carew PapritzIt was gifted to me by a friend who had herself been touched by so many passages in the book that she had copied several pages worth of gentle reminders to pass to friends and family. She said it was one of the most moving books she’s ever read and I have to agree with her. Lately, Ive felt slightly weighed down by the pace of this generation with the flurry of technology and the change of family dynamics. So busy we don’t even eat at the dinner table together anymore. The book is a breath of fresh air. One of my favorite chapters of the book was Time: The first and last gift "You can busy yourself right into a sweet dark grave and, only at the last moment of small change and diminished air, regret not having spent more time living." It caused me to yearn for all of the simple, beautiful things in life. Look up at the moon and the stars, say please and thank you, take a walk, pay attention; The best things in life truly are free. It’s filled with advice and instruction I like to think I passed down to my own children and reminded me of the “duty” I have to continue passing on that legacy to my grandchildren. Read it if you get a chance!
