PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

We have one dog.........thinking of a second for company for the first.  Do you have two dogs? Would you just have one?

Currently we have two.  One is mind and he's 13.  one is my grand dog and she's about 9.  I've had dogs since I was about 1 1/2 when my aunt sent her poodle down from NYC to live with us (long story that involved separation anxiety and my aunt's favorite couch).  We've had any where from one to 4 dogs at one time.  Four was not that bad but since all 4 wanted to sleep with me it was a little crowded.  With the two I have getting older it's got me thinking of what I will do when these two are gone.  I think we'll continue the tradition of adopting from a rescue but I think we'll rescue one or two older dogs.  Ideally it would be a pair that came in together and they want to place together.  Breed doesn't bother me although I'd like to go for one that either doesn't shed or shed a little less than the ones I've had over the last 5 years.

I have the grandpup this week....he's wonderful company. And he's going home this afternoon! Sweet thing he is. 11yo chocolate lab. My yard has been interloper free all week (cats, squirrels, etc, gone). He secures the perimeter every night. Sleeps either on the couch (blanket covered, as I just had the furniture cleaned) or in his bed. He did sleep with GB#1 the other night...he can get on the futon, so the kid was smushed up against the wall most of the night, but they both seemed good with it.

I don't want any permanent animals at this point. I don't want to have to care for anything. After the nearly 10 years of DH's illness, I just want to meet my own needs. Our time had to be so carefully planned that now I want to pack a bag and go whenever the mood strikes. I went to the basketball game Wednesday, GB#1's team had "court time" on the pro court in the afternoon, then tailgate party then the pro game. His team was the half-time scrimmage on the pro court. The grandpup had to wait for his dinner until after 10....I'd been gone 11 hours...he wasn't happy! I don't want to have to plan my time around anyone or arrange animal care. Things may change as time goes by, but right now, just no. Having the GP here for a week a couple of times a year is plenty.
