PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

Do you/would you do a family newsletter?

5 posts in this topic

In the following thread, upsidedownhug, talks about a newsletter he sends out to help keep his widespread family connected:

Now I'm wondering, does anyone else here do the same? Or would you like to? Or have you in the past? What do/did/would you include? And what has been your experience, if any, w/ such newsletters?

I would love to - and in the past I have tried to do an annual "newsletter", but my childen aren't interested, as far as I can tell, so I gave up.  I don't have enough news from folks to do an annual, so more frequent seems improbable.

Anyne got any ideas about how to get the AC interested? :P

My kids started a group on one of the social media channels, more like a blog than a newsletter. Whoever wants to chimes in with news, pics, sayings, just a way to reach out. I signed off on the group a while back because I felt it wasn't age appropriate for me :) and I didn't want to be a wet blanket. They are still going strong. I figure, as long as they keep in touch with each other, that's what counts.  Their father is out of the picture, and I'm kind of happy to fade away. So let the new generation surge on!

My kids do group texts/emails, sometimes I'm included, sometimes not. They have their own "underground" that I have no desire to be part of. I love their closeness. DD once said if there was some sort of natural disaster where she and all the kids were the survivors, she'd take them all in, get a bigger house and have 13 kids (her 1, brother's 5, sister's 2, BIL's 3 and her goddaughter) 5 girls, 8 boys...because they are the 'sibs' kids. The group texts that do include me are pix of the gk doing whatever they do or other family business....all good

My wife has a facebook group called Baby Bears Big Adventures to keep family and friends more updated than everyone else.  We know we can spam writing and pictures and videos in that group and everyone will be excited to see them.  I personally detest facebook with a strong passion and no longer use it, but I know that everyone seems to enjoy the group!  I know it's not a news letter but it's pretty close, and you may want to look into doing something similar if it sounds like something you'd enjoy.
