PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

... some of the things you enjoy about being a GP? Whether you celebrate the upcoming GP Day or not, I thought this would be a good time to share this feel-good article about GC...

... and to ask you how you feel about being a GP, if your are one, whether near or far (or how you feel about being a parent, for that matter, etc.)

I like it when they come to visit me for the weekend. Then they go back home and I can rest. When I had my surgery, my GD gave me a balloon that she wrote "get well soon" on with a marker. Better than a store bought one from the gift shop. There is nothing like the feeling I get when they hug me and tell me they love me.

I have been a grandmother for less than a month. I enjoy holding our tiny GS and just looking at him. He is so soft and cuddly. I also enjoy watching DH smile when he holds him, not to mention DS and DIL, who are awe-struck. Today I fed him some of a bottle. Friends who are grandmothers told me it is an amazing feeling which can't quite be comprehended until you experience it. I thought, "mm-hm, we'll see."  But it's true! I am in love.

Joy- It's always a joy to see them -- from the moment they arrived- I was fortunate enough to see all but one be born, to watch them take their first breaths and hear their first tiny cry announcing their arrival- It's hysterical how they teach each other to do things, and how each one learns something much younger than the one before them- At age two or just before the youngest climbed up on the table, separated the paper plates, opened the pizza box and slapped a slice on each plate with purpose- And at age one the expression of surprise when the oldest realized she was walking- Priceless- I'm fortunate to have a daughter who has allowed me to be a part of her life- I think that might be the best part of being a grandmother-

Of course the love for the grandchildren is wonderful; they are beautiful and amazing and it's like the fun of having babies all over again only without the same level of responsibility since they're not mine. However, I think the best part of being a grandparent for me is the pride I feel in my son, as I see what a good and loving father he is and how well he cares for his family.

Totally loving the experience, especially being entrusted to look after our little grandson one day a week. So much fun,  but without all  the stress.

I'm new this board, but I'm happy to have other grandparents to relate to the same things!  We are due to have our 8th.  I think the quote "I never really knew how deeply I could love until I held my first grandchild in my arms." is the best way I can describe it!  Of course we love our own children, but with grandchildren we are older, wiser, not as stressed, far more patient, not responsible 24/7 and we only have to play with them, not necessarily discipline (at least not overly much!), and none of the day to day getting homework done, making sure they are eating perfectly healthy and on and on.  It is truly the best!
