PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

Single on the holidays - 2017

9 posts in this topic

As I've said elsewhere on the board, there are several holidays coming up -  Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year's. So now I'm asking, is it generally easier to be single during the holiday season or more difficult? How about this year?

What? No one here is single? Or no one has any feelings about being single on the holidays?

I am separated, but am friendly with my x.  We have the two children, so usually he would spend holidays with us.  I am not interested in seeking any male company.  Maybe I will feel differently later (but it's been 7 years now, LOL).  So that is not actually the exact same as being being single.  I will be having lunches with friends.  I have 4 set up already.  I hope that I would be fine with being single on the holidays, which does not mean alone.  I would be open to spending time with my children whenever they were free.  I am just a couple of years from retirement so plan to be more involved with going to college and having volunteer opportunities.

We all know here I am single...however, I don't dwell on it. All my kids, gkids, my sister, good friends are wonderfully supportive & inclusive. I travel whenever the spirit moves me...visiting friends/family, music events, #1GB plays tournament baseball (going international again next summer). I have no problem being alone and remain extremely busy.

A group of high school girlfriends is getting together for lunch at an historic hotel near where we went to school next week....it's becoming a tradition...some I've known since kindergarten.

Christmas Eve with my family is at DS' this year. A logistical problem was easily solved by moving there. As well, I don't have to panicky get my projects done to host here. Don't know what Christmas Day holds, but I'm not concerned. There are options...however, I have no problem spending the day alone watching movies.

Lunch with "the girls" was a blast...one I've known since kindergarten...60 years ago....sweetly said I never change and still look the same...There were only 7 of us, but it was a very good 7....

I had crab cake sliders & a beet salad...killer good
