PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

Loss of a Pet

8 posts in this topic

I got a call this afternoon that DS/xDIL had to put the grandpup down this afternoon....My heart is broken. He was large, gentle Chocolate Lab 12-1/2 years old who was so wonderful with the kids. He'd stay with me when the family went on not-so-dog-friendly vacations. I had him the week between Christmas & New Year, still sweeping up dog hair!

I love my Grandpuppy- she's a cutie.  I don't get to dog sit her but she's still very very special.  My sympathies.

I'm sorry, Mame- The loss of a cherished animal is heartbreaking, and when talking specifically a dog that wouldn't move away from a sleeping infant until the baby woke up or provided a backrest for children to lean against while reading a book, they will remain a child's best friend for life, their kindness forever remembered by all that had the opportunity to experience it- I loved the grandpup and miss her, she was definitely my friend-

Sorry Mame,

We have lost pets and I have cried over them, they become a part of your family. Some don't realize how close we can get attached to our pets.

He was a cutie.

I was at their house yesterday...and it's very strange to see it pup free. xDIL says they'll be getting a new dog by the summer...but not another Chocolate...#2GB is showing some anxiety as the pup slept outside his bedroom door so he doesn't feel quite as safe...just looking at his pic here this morning is making me a little misty...the 5yo just plainly said "Pup is dead"...he gets that the dog is gone and not coming back, doesn't like it, of course, but not sure if he fully understands yet.
