PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

If you had to ..

If you had to scale your book collection down to say half a dozen, which books would you pick? Spiritual and religious? Reference? Fiction? Art? Science? Gardening? Humor?  Field Guides? Maps /Atlas? Would your picks be a mix?

Say you were putting together a bugout bag, would you leave room for a few books? If so, which would you choose?

Funny you should bring this up, Komo! Recently, DH and I were talking about scaling down our books  But we couldn't decide which ones or types to remove. We each have our favorite books, genres and authors that we're not ready to part w/ yet. If one of us were "gone," the other would probably discard/give away/donate to the library some of the other's books. But until then, I think they're all staying. ;)

Oh, you mentioned maps. I could see getting rid of any maps we don't have use for anymore, and, in fact, we have. But my general atlas is a different story. And my "cultural atlases" - oh no, those stay indefinitely...

Some years back we did scale back considerably- My husband's collection fills a small bookcase, I scaled back to about a dozen, give or take- We both love atlases and maps, so hung on to those-

I forgot .. I did keep a stack of very old hardcovers solely for the artwork on their covers- I thought of making journals out them but never did- I still keep them though because of how they "look"- I also kept one of my husbands mothers mothers books because while reading it discovered one of the characters name was the same as his mothers name- I have wondered if his grandmother named her daughter after the character in that book, because her name was kind of unusual and figured the book might reveal a piece of family history-
