PLEASE READ: We are moving the community   02/15/18

Dear Community friends and family,   After great consideration, we are moving the Grandparents.com community to Facebook Groups effective March 15, 2018.   This wasn’t an easy decision, but we want to bring our communities together and believe the best place to do so is through Facebook’s groups feature. We’re so appreciative of you and the diverse conversations and opinions you have provided over the past 9 years. Your stories and amazing advice have helped so many readers, and have reached thousands of GP.com users. We encourage you to retrieve any information you want to retain as the forum will only be accessible by the admin after March 15, 2018. We’ve created a closed Facebook group called Mothers-in-Law Unplugged where we welcome you to continue the conversations around grandparenting, family, and in-law relationships, and any general topics we discuss here. As the group is closed and each user must be approved, your friends and family on Facebook won’t see any of your activity. Request to join the group here: http://bit.ly/milunplugged Thank you to all of our past and current users. You helped build our community, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the Facebook groups. If you have any questions about the groups and privacy, let’s chat about here:   Sincerely,   The Grandparents.com Team

Hi Kalana

We are very happy to have you join us - and would love to get to know you a little better. Would you be up to writing a post about what brought you to our group and let us get to know you a little bit. I have been reading your answers to others posts and you seem to have a lot of good ideas to offer. We'd love to know what's going on with you and see if there's any way we can help you with whatever brought you here to us. Again, we're glad you joined us last week - and are already up to jumping in with helpful ideas. Hugs - Tedy

(waving to everyone!!!) I'm someone who has a grown child living with her after he was on his own awhile. He's not a problem. I just wish he could find work so he could get his own place and feel better about himself!

waving back! i'm glad you joined us. i know exactly what you mean. my son was in prison for a year and got out in October. he didn't find work until Dec. - goodness, that was a mess. he was readjusting - we were footing his bills - not the best, all the way around. is he helping out at the house while he's not working? maybe it would be a good idea to give him some chores to do so he feels more useful. he finally found work through a temp agency. it was temp to perm and he worked there about a month and then they changed their 'felon hire' policy the first of the year and let him go. he went back to the agency and had another job in two days. i realize he was quite lucky, with the economy and unemployment like it is. this job pays $12 an hour, but it meets his bills and a little left over for dating. when he turns permanent, it will jump to $19 an hour (1-3 mo's after hiring on). we can hardly wait! maybe that would be an idea for your son. he could go to unlimited agencies if he wanted to and they were around, depending on where you live. keep us posted!
